The Bristol Homeless Action Week team are witnessing the incredible work of hundreds of people in the community making extraordinary efforts to support those who need it through this crisis. Many will not see this work but would love to show their gratitude.
We would love there to be a positive celebration, awareness raising and thank you to all of the individuals making extraordinary efforts in this crisis.
Charities, volunteers, local businesses, individuals from all parts of the community are coming together more than ever to support those who are homeless and our vulnerable communities across Bristol.
How about a….
CHUESDAY CHEER FOR CHARITIES!
8 PM Tuesday 12th May (during the Bristol Homeless Action week that was)
Like the cheer for the NHS – a simple 5 minute cheer from wherever you are, socially distanced and safe of course!
We have a poster for all organisations to share around Bristol.
To celebrate and thank the charities, volunteers, people and businesses helping out and the people they are helping. All charities and organisations welcome to get involved.
We will invite people to take a picture or video of themselves cheering or a thank you and share it to your organisations social media channels on the night – so the message gets direct to your organisations and volunteers.
We hope to have a selection of photos and video clips of the amazing work of volunteers and organisations to show across the day.
Email any thoughts or a request for the digital poster to email@example.com or anyone on the BHAW committee.
What action can I take during the current pandemic crisis?
Please do what you can to support all the organisations rallying to adapt so quickly to this crisis, to save lives and make individuals lives bearable in our own communities.

An update on Bristol Homeless Action Week:
In light of the current Covid 19 pandemic and to protect the safety of those who would otherwise attend, the physical event during May 11-16th will be postponed.
Calls to action right now are time critical and changing week to week.
It will probably come as no surprise that we have taken the sad decision not to run a week of digital or live events in May 2020. There are many reasons for this, but paramount is that we would be unable to meet the original aims of the event for the benefit of all organisations involved.
Any COVID-19 response is best served through the ongoing Bristol Homeless Forum work and through the organisations themselves who are working extremely hard to respond to needs on a round the clock basis.
So, instead of an ‘action week’ we intend to do the following:
1. Issue a weekly Bristol Homeless Forum Bulletin to give information and support appeals for help. We will promote this more widely than usual through social media and the BHAW website.
2. During the week of May 11-16 to present a summary of what organisations are doing and any appeals for action where possible with video clips etc.
3. Pursue some individually prepared press coverage on for example tenants’ rights and appeals – which can be shared on our websites.
In the longer term we hope to hold a Bristol Homeless Action Week in May 2021.
We will also consider event(s) later in the year, if the time is right.
Such events might focus on actions we can all take to help those who are homeless be supported out of the crisis. They might also consider our learning from the collaboration that has been a feature of our response to the pandemic and consider opportunities for change in the future.
If you would like anything posted onto BHAW networks please just share the link to our sites or email us with details. Email firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you for your support and we hope to see you in May 2021 if not before!
Bristol Homeless Action Week 2020 is about all of us being informed to take action to reduce, prevent or challenge homelessness.
The four main areas of action are raising awareness, volunteering, campaigning and donating.
There is of course incredible action happening all over Bristol and many of the excellent organisations already taking action will be running events here over the week.
Bristol Homeless Action Week is hosting a full range of events at two venues: The Vestibules, City Hall, College Green and Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft (PRSC), Jamaica Street, Stokes Croft.
Events will include workshops, art displays, panel discussions, advice on ways to take action, informal ways to connect – something for everyone!
The event is now postponed due to the current pandemic crisis.
